The town Fire Marshal responded to the smoke report at Oakwood Village just before 3:25 p.m. on Monday, August 22, a release said.

Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke coming from the residence and made immediate entry.

Firefighters made quick work of the kitchen blaze while search teams brought several pets to safety, the fire marshal said.

The investigation was conducted by the MOFM and the township police department.
